The 312 ft Rainbow Falls brings excitement to all valley visitors and is truly an awesome sight in the spring and early summer. It is a pleasant walk or easy bike trip from most lodging in the valley. The historic Buckner Orchard was homesteaded in the late 1890s and still functions as an orchard. In the fall, visitors and locals are encouraged to pick apples and make their own apple juice. This is an experience not to be missed. The old one room Stehekin School is now open for visitors to browse through at their leisure. Many memories are housed in this structure and its fun to remember how schooling used to be in one room school houses across the United States. Golden West Visitors Center is where the National Park Service displays pictures and information on the valleys history. Get advice on trails , information about the weather, sign up for the shuttle bus, obtain a camping permit or attend an informative evening program about the North Cascades at the Golden West. Hours are usually 8-5 during the summer. The House That Jack Built is a community cooperative. Art, crafts, and hand made items are for sale.
